About SnapQR
SnapQR is a small set of free QR code tools. Scan a code from an image, a screenshot or your camera, or make one for a link, your WiFi, a contact card, WhatsApp and more. No account, no watermark, no expiry.
Why we built it
Too many “free” QR generators aren't. Some switch your code off after a trial, some route every scan through an ad page, some ask for your email before you can download. We wanted a tool we'd be happy to send our own family to.
How it works
Everything runs in your browser. When you type a link or a WiFi password, the QR code is drawn right there on your device. When you scan, the image is read on your device too. Nothing you type or scan is sent to our server, so there's nothing for us to store, sell or lose.
The codes are static: the content lives inside the code itself. That's why they never expire.
How we test
Every change goes through an automated round-trip test. A script opens the real pages in a browser, fills in the forms, saves each code as PNG, SVG and PDF, and reads it back with the open-source ZXing decoder. The result has to match byte for byte — including accented letters, emoji and the special characters that break WiFi codes.
The test covers all 8 code types and more than 30 style combinations: every quick style and frame, gradients, transparent backgrounds, logos, each error-correction level, and colors that should trigger a warning. The scanner has its own test: rotated, skewed, blurred, noisy, inverted, tiny and low-contrast codes, three codes in one picture, pasted screenshots, and a live camera feed.
Who's behind it
SnapQR is built and run by an independent web developer.
